The suffocating nature of the entertainment industry inevitably leads to some unlikely relationship pairings. People who would never end up together if it were not for their shared proximity in the celebrity bubble end up happily married, or on the flip side, with insulting songs written about them. It has become increasingly rare that famous couples are equals in all three sectors that make them famous: talent, attractiveness, and character. And A$AP Rocky and Rihanna are one of those couples.
The week of Jan. 19, A$AP Rocky was all over TV screens and FYPs, passionately promoting his two new babies: his latest album, Don’t Be Dumb, and his third child and first daughter, Rocki Irish Mayers. This press tour revealed Rocky’s soft side — something fans seldom see from men, and especially rappers.
Rocky has always been keenly aware of his special relationship with Rihanna, and one of his new songs, “STOLE YA FLOW,” reflects that. The lyrics go, “Now I’m a father, my b*tch badder than my toddler / My baby mama Rihanna, so we unbothered.”
When asked about fatherhood and his long-term partner, Rocky always answers with the utmost respect, buzzing with excitement. “I feel like a new man again and again and again,” Rocky said on a Jan. 19 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He continued to gush over his SO on The New York Times’s podcast called Popcast, agreeing with host John Camanica that in 2012, he couldn’t have seen himself as the booed-up family man he is today.
“A woman will change your whole life, especially if it’s a companion,” Rocky said. Friendship is the foundation for relationships — even for celebrities. He even added that his own mother was secretly shipping the pair while he was in previous relationships.
Rocky and Rihanna’s relationship is truly kismet. The stars are unequivocally adored for their good looks, fashion sense, and incredible music. But their connection goes well beyond their shared presence in the industry — it extends to their ideals of family. As Rocky told Popcast, they just “get each other.” It’s refreshing to see a man eager to speak so highly of his woman, especially after several years of being together.
Far too frequently, these relationships land a stunning woman with a degenerate manchild. (Sabrina Carpenter even wrote a chart-topping song and album about it.) Rappers and musicians frequently fraternize with fellow celebrities, but they hardly ever express emotional vulnerability. A$AP Rocky does so unabashedly. In one of his latest songs, “STAY HERE 4 LIFE,” he even admits, “My fairytale with a happy ending, I wish that I could stay here for life.” I wish that for you too, Rocky.
