Once, while sitting in the dining hall with my roommate, we saw a girl with fabulous jewelry, and it sparked a conversation about jewelry from the thrift store. We talked more about it, and decided that we would get a jar to split. So recently, my roommate and I got a mystery jewelry jar. Unfortunately, we did not find it in the wild at a thrift store, we just got it online from Depop.
When we were looking on Depop for a jar, we found it a little tricky because we needed one with mixed metals, and that suited both of our styles. We needed to have both gold and silver because my roommate is strictly a silver girl, while I love to mix the two together. It would also be easier for when we are splitting up the pieces to see who likes what. We chose to pick one that was a more whimsical woodland theme with a cute jar that we could reuse. Our final jar based on what we picked contained gold and silver, was whimsical themed, and in an adorable beehive jar.
It took about a week for our package to arrive at the dorms and once it did, we immediately knew that something was off. The shape of the package did not match the jar that we had bought, so we were confused on if we even got the jar that was advertised to us. Then we heard a lot of rattling inside. Once we got back to our room and opened the package, we saw what was wrong. As soon as we opened the package, little pieces of ceramic began to fall out, and we knew that our jar had broken. The jar that the jewelry was in had broken so badly that we could not even glue it back together, so that was a bit disappointing.
Once we got over the initial shock of the jar being shattered, we started to take out the pieces and soon we discovered some great things! I got a couple of chunky rings that matched what I had been looking for alongside two bracelets and three necklaces as well. My roommate found some earrings, bracelets, and necklaces too. We had a couple of pieces that neither of us wanted but honestly we really enjoyed the jar. It was so much fun pulling out each piece and trying it on to see if it matched our vibes. For me, this helped expose me to different styles of jewelry, in particular I’m on my journey to finding my own personal style.
I really enjoyed the process of opening the mystery jar. Aside from the actual jar being broken, I would recommend this to anyone! I truly think that this experience is worth it and helps you discover what kinds of things you like and don’t like. Plus, if you are like me and searching for your style, then this exposes you to pieces you might not have thought to get before. My roommate and I are also looking forward to hunting for one in the thrift stores as well!
