My name is Morgan Stadler and I’m the Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Northern State University. I’m one whose financial aid journey started as a workstudy student back in the fall of 2010 before moving into a full-time position right after graduation. Some of my main duties include workstudy, direct loan originations, summer awarding, scholarship processing, and meeting with students.
Who is your mentor?
My mentor is the amazing Korri Risinger, Associate Director of Financial Aid at Wayne State College. I’ve really got to give props to the LP Team for this pairing! Korri and I are so alike which makes our time together flow seamlessly. From day one she has been nothing but supportive, sharing advice and words of wisdom. We presently meet twice a month discussing goals for the year, status updates, and going through real-life situations that we’ve encountered. I tend to overthink and get lost in my own head, but she’s been helping me step out with more confidence and boldness. I’m so appreciative of the time and energy she’s extended to me and am looking forward to our continued time together.
Why did you decide to join Leadership Pipeline?
I’ve learned a bit about leadership pipeline over the years at various conferences and have heard nothing but good things regarding the program. However, it wasn’t until my supervisor encouraged me to apply that I took that next step (Thanks Becky!). I’m certainly grateful for the opportunity to learn for myself how great this program really is.
What is the most valuable thing you have learned so far?
The most important lesson I’ve learned so far is leading despite fear. Most leaders seem so confident, but there is a layer of fear that most don’t see. With leadership there comes uncertainty and that uncertainty can leave us feeling vulnerable. Vulnerability is not a weakness though we often see it as such. It’s an opportunity to build trust with those around us; letting them be there through our struggle and see us come out the other side stronger. On the subject of vulnerability, I like how Melaney Storey put it when she said, “it’s an honor for people to see that and be there for you, just as much as you being there for others.”
What is it that you are hoping to come away with at the end of the program?
I’m hoping to gain more confidence in myself and as a leader. Someone who doesn’t shy away when asked to step out of their comfort zone. I’m looking to grow into a person who thinks more outside of the box and sees new possibilities while encouraging others to do the same. I’m excited to continue cultivating relationships with the others in my LP class as they all have new insights and fresh perspectives.
Would you recommend this program to others?
Without a doubt, I would recommend Leadership Pipeline to others! You’re surrounded by others who want nothing more than your success. We all have different experiences, personalities, perspectives, etc. and when you put that all together you get an opportunity to learn and grow. You build new connections with people you might not otherwise meet, while gaining a fresh perspective on yourself and a deeper understanding of who you are—and who you can become.
