SAT^® Prep On a Timeline

Efficiently Using Methodize’s SAT Program and Other Resources to Raise Your Scores

When time is of the essence, you’ll want to prepare for the SAT as efficiently as possible. Here’s how to use Methodize’s SAT prep program in concert with official practice materials to maximize the impact of your efforts.

1. If you don’t already have a PSAT® score, take an official diagnostic (practice) test in Bluebook™. To know where you should focus your prep, you’ll need to get baseline scores. Bluebook is a free app from College Board—the maker and administrator of the SAT—that allows you to take official practice SATs. Download Bluebook, log into the platform with your College Board account credentials, and click “Full-Length Practice.” Under the “Test Type” field, select “SAT,” and choose SAT Practice 4. Take this test as a full-length exam. After you finish, you’ll be prompted to review your results within your College Board account. Your results will appear under the “SAT Practice Test” section. Click the download icon in the upper-right of the score box to download a PDF version of your score report. (See the screenshot below.) 

1. Use the downloaded report to learn which domains require the most attention. In its “Knowledge and Skills” section, your diagnostic test score report will display your performance in the eight content domains into which the SAT’s questions are organized. This will help you understand the question types on which you can stand to improve the most. For example, in the screenshot below, you’ll see that this student can improve in just about all domains, but especially on “Expression of Ideas” and “Craft and Structure” questions in the Reading and Writing section and on “Problem-Solving and Data Analysis” and “Geometry and Trigonometry” questions on the Math section.

1. Log into your Methodize account and go to your SAT course dashboard. Go to the “Units” view, which will bring you to the core lesson list of the program. Use the table below to understand which Methodize SAT lessons fall under each domain on your score report. Complete the lessons and quizzes associated with the domains in which you need the most work. This can take place over weeks or months.

1. After working through the appropriate Methodize lessons and quizzes, take a full-length practice SAT in Methodize. To do so, go to the “Test” tab on your SAT course dashboard. Take this as a full-length test, and make sure to read all of the explanations and watch the video explanations for questions you answered incorrectly or were unsure about. Based on where you still need work, return to those lessons and reattempt them along with their quizzes, ensuring you watch all the video explanations.

1. Use the SAT Suite Question Bank to find additional official questions to practice with. The College Board’s question bank is a useful tool for assembling questions by domain, topic, and difficulty level. We strongly recommend using it for supplemental practice.

• Take additional practice tests in Bluebook and on Methodize. Taking full-length, timed practice tests is one of the most reliable ways to improve your SAT score.
