Being a student is a lot of fun!
Being somewhere new, studying the subject of your choice, making life-long friends and ultimately learning the person you want to be.
Often university is the start of most people being in charge of their own finances.
Whether you are looking to cover expenses, nights out or begin saving, a part-time job can be a big help.
Student Ambassador:
Working as a student ambassador can mean a lot of different things! We are there to help both current and prospective students and visitors to the university.
This can be through many ways:
- Greeting visitors and explaining student life and the courses we study in person at open days.
- Campus tours to show the facilities we have on offer.
- Answering questions on Unibuddy.
- Visiting/ hosting schools for outreach to help young people with deciding on what to do after school.
- Or even writing blogs!

Community Warden:
The Community Warden Scheme works with students and the local community to address concerns, individual and general, to keep harmony between the university and the local area.
Community Wardens work in multiple areas to signpost the university’s services and give advice to students as they navigate living away from home including:
- Recycling workshops – helping students be more sustainable.
- Noise awareness – informing students of how loud noises can affect their neighbours.
- How to be safe while drinking.

Union Shop:
The Union Shop, is located on the Talbot Campus and offers a wide range from stationary, to lunch meal deals, and clothing to show off your university. (The BU hoodies are so cosy!)
Working in the Union Shop, you would be in charge of keeping the shelves stocked, stock-taking, and working on the tills.
If you have shop experience or want to learn this could be a great job for you!
Dylan’s Bar:
Located on Talbot Campus, Dylan’s Bar is a great place to hang out with friends after lectures, grab a bite to eat from brunch to dinner, or take part in the weekly quiz and competition nights.
Working at the bar can take the form of many roles:
- Cooking food in the kitchen
- Serving the many delicious meals on offer
- Hosting the quiz night
- Serving drinks at the bar
Old Fire Station:
The Old Fire Station acts as the SUBU nightclub and opens to the public for many events. Located on Holdenhurst Road, 5 minutes from the Lansdowne Campus, it’s a must-go place for students on nights out.
Working here as bar tender here means you’re at the heart of the action, pouring the drinks and soaking in the vibes of the many events hosted every week. (Lollipop on Friday’s and ABBA night’s are always a big hit!)
