When it comes down to choosing a university, this can feel overwhelming. With multiple websites, league tables, as well as social media influence, it all comes down to seeing the campus. For me, the decision to study at Bournemouth University was a no-brainer thanks to the open day.
Like most prospective students, I had narrowed down my choices and was completely stuck between two universities. Online they looked great and had similar modules. Before making such a big decision I knew I had to look at the Bournemouth Campus and get a feel for what life would be like.
Attending the open day gave me insight into how my course runs, looking into the facilities and talking to the staff about what my time at Bournemouth would look like. A big factor for me was how modern the studios were here in comparison to other universities I looked at. On 
top of this, I loved the idea of being so close to a beach, which, looking back now, I am so grateful that I chose Bournemouth due to its location and transport links.
As someone moving away from home for the first time, I wanted to feel secure. Bournemouth University has multiple support measures in place as well as 24/7 campus security. The town is also great for student life and has plenty of cafes, shops and nightlife too.
Having a tour of the campus and in particular the areas of interest like Weymouth House and understanding what is covered in the Multi-media Journalism Course helped me visualise and ask Is this where I want to study?
Looking back now, the open days are such an important opportunity to help you make that decision. It can be difficult to understand truly what the university is like, and seeing it in person made me feel more relaxed. If you are unsure about what to expect, come down to an open day and have a look around. You are able to look at the accommodation available, the campuses and tour Bournemouth too. Sometimes, all it takes is one visit to know you’ve found the right uni for you.
