NEST New York Holiday Classic Candle

NEST New York

Holiday Classic Candle

For a December dinner host

A good host gift for a December dinner or a winter weekend stay: a spiced pomegranate, pine and clove scent in a gold-patterned glass that looks festive on the table. It is a seasonal candle, so skip it outside the winter months.

Why it works as a gift

A seasonal candle works as a host gift because it gets used right away: the host can light it that evening or the next, and keep it going for the rest of the season. NEST's Holiday scent is pomegranate and mandarin orange over pine, clove and cinnamon, with a hint of vanilla and amber. The fruit notes keep the spice from turning heavy, which is the usual problem with clove and cinnamon candles.

The presentation does a lot of the work. The 8.1 oz candle sits in a glass etched with a gold pattern and the listing photo shows it in a red and gold box. NEST's Amazon listing says the wax is a proprietary blend made to burn cleanly and evenly for 50 to 60 hours, that the candle is vegan, not tested on animals and made in the USA, and that the glass is reusable once the candle is finished.

Compared with NEST's Autumn Plum candle, this is the more festive, December-specific choice; compared with a citrus candle such as MALIN+GOETZ Bergamot, it is warmer and more seasonal but has a shorter window of use. That trade-off is the whole decision: choose it for a winter visit, not for a gift that has to make sense in June.

Who it’s for

  • The host of a December dinner party or a winter open house
  • In-laws or relatives you are staying with over the winter break, as a thank-you on arrival
  • A neighbor or colleague for a year-end gift, when a familiar seasonal scent is safer than a bold one
  • Someone who decorates for the season and would put the gold glass on display

Skip it if

  • The visit is in spring or summer; pine, clove and cinnamon will feel out of place, and a citrus or floral candle is the better gift
  • Your host is sensitive to fragrance or dislikes spiced scents
  • They don't mark the winter holidays at all and would rather have something neutral; NEST's box is clearly seasonal

Giving it

  • The listing photo shows a red and gold box; if it arrives that way, a ribbon and a short card are enough
  • For a bigger host gift, pair it with Neuhaus Les Savoureux pralines so there is something to light and something to share
  • Order in November or early December so it arrives well before the dinner and can be enjoyed for the whole season
