Why it works as a gift
A three-scent set lets the recipient find out which Byredo suits their skin before anyone commits to a full bottle. It is the right shape of gift when you know someone likes niche fragrance but not which one they would choose.
The three take woods in different directions. Byredo lists Black Saffron with juniper berries, pomelo and saffron at the top, black violet, rose and a leather accord at the heart, and blonde woods, raspberry and vetiver underneath; the house ties it to the colour saffron holds in its founder's Indian upbringing. Mojave Ghost pairs ambrette and naseberry with magnolia, sandalwood and violet over cedarwood, musks and vetiver, written as an ode to the Mojave Desert and the hardy flowers that bloom there. Super Cedar is the simplest of the three: Byredo describes cedar reminiscent of pencil shavings and labels it woody, genderless and medium intensity.
Against a single small bottle at a similar budget, the set gives more to explore and more to talk about. Each spray is 0.41 oz (12 ml), all three are eau de parfum, and they arrive in a white Byredo box printed with the set's name. The trade-off is scale: these are travel sizes, so the gift reads as an introduction rather than a grand gesture.
