Why it works as a gift
A travel mug is a gift that gets used every morning, so the details matter more than the logo. Fellow lines the inside of the Carter Move with what it calls a True Taste ceramic coating, meant to keep drinks free of lingering oils, odors and metallic notes, and pairs it with a thin, tapered lip that Fellow says was inspired by Cabernet glasses. Around that is double-wall vacuum-insulated 18/8 stainless steel, which Fellow rates at 12 hours hot and 24 hours cold.
It is built for a commute. The lid twists to lock and Fellow describes it as leak-proof, with a removable snap-in splash guard for sipping on the move. The 16 oz size stands 190 mm tall with the lid on, Fellow says it fits most car cup holders, and the whole mug is dishwasher safe. Fellow also notes that it fits most standard pour-over drippers, so someone who brews by hand can brew straight into it.
At this budget the obvious alternatives are a supermarket steel tumbler or a heated smart mug. Plain steel is cheaper but is the source of the metallic taste the ceramic lining is meant to avoid; a heated mug like the Ember stays on a desk and needs charging. The Carter Move sits between them: unpowered, sealed for a bag, and nicer to drink from than most tumblers.
