Why it works as a gift
Libre is easy to describe and easy to recognise. Mecca calls it the first floral lavender and lists French lavender, Moroccan orange blossom, mandarin and vanilla. Lookfantastic gives the fuller pyramid: tangerine, neroli and lavender at the top, jasmine and Moroccan orange blossom at the heart, and Madagascan vanilla with white musks at the base.
The bottle does a lot of the gifting work. Retailers describe a sculpted, sharp-angled bottle entwined with the gold YSL Cassandre logo and topped with an asymmetric black lacquer cap. The retailer photo shows it beside a white box with gold lettering, so it looks finished as it is.
Against a softer fruity floral at a similar budget, Libre is the bolder choice, pairing lavender with orange blossom and vanilla. That suits a woman who wears perfume often and likes it noticed. The trade-off is lavender itself: if she associates it with soap or linen sprays, a different floral will be kinder.
